To protect from harm, to guard from attack, to repulse enemies – for centuries rugged defenders have built walls, launched missiles, and waged wars, expending materials and human resources in the battle to save nations and cities, and with total commitment and courageous abandon, individuals have fought for their families.  It is a rule of life that we fight for survival, defending with all our strength what is most precious to us, form every real or imagined attack.



God’s Word and the gift of eternal life have infinite value and have been entrusted to Christ’s faithful followers.  There are many people who live in opposition to God and his followers.  They twist God’s truth, seeking to deceive and destroy the unwary.  But God’s truth must go forth, carried and defended by those who have committed their lives to God’s Son.  It is an important task, an awesome responsibility and a profound privilege to have this commission.



The message for Christians everywhere is that opposition would come and godless teachers would arise, but Christians should “contend for the faith” by rejecting all falsehood and immorality, remembering God’s mighty acts of rescue and punishment in addition to the warnings of the apostles.  His readers are to build up their own faith through prayer, keeping  close to Christ, helping others and hating sin.



We are being warned of an internal attack one of complacency and heresy.  We have been told in God’s Word to hold fast to the non-negotiable facts of faith, of growing and maturing in the faith, and of rejecting all who would distort the truth.  To follow this advice would ensure Christ-honoring individuals and Christ-centered churches.

Warnings about false teachers are all throughout scripture and that they will be very prevalent in the last days and they will do and say anything for money, they will spurn the things of God, they will do whatever they feel like doing, they will be proud and boastful, and they will be judged and punished by God.



Our world is filled with false prophets and teachers who claim to have the truth and who clamor for attention and allegiance.  Heed the warnings in scripture and be determined to grow in your knowledge of Christ and to reject all those who preach/teach anything inconsistent with God’s Word.
