God is writing on the walls of our culture, His graffiti is on the walls of the courthouse, the school house, the church house and all our houses. What message is God writing in your life?  God's graffiti to King Belshazzar is a message that is shouting at us today. We can't use the spray paint of our own righteousness, ignorance, pride, arrogance and indifference to cover up God's graffiti that is on our personal walls and the walls of society.  The Book of Daniel talks about a man named Belshazzar who was the King of Babylon, son of Nabonidus, and grandson of Nebuchadnezzar. Belshazzar had a memory problem, he didn't remember what happened to his grandfather Nebuchadnezzar during his reign in Babylon. Belshazzar knew all the details surrounding what happened to Nebuchadnezzar, yet he repeated the same mistakes to the point of no return. To him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin - James 4:17. The Israelites had the same memory problem, they forgot everything God had done for them and forsaken that which was right to do, worship the Lord their God only and Him only should they worship. Have you retained the goodness of God in the memory of your heart or have you forgot and as a result of your forgetfulness, you have forsaken that which you know is right to do.

God’s graffiti message to Belshazzar was Mene, Mene, Tekel, Parsin which is:  Mene, Mene – God has numbered the days of your reign and has brought it to an end. Tekel – You have been weighed on the scales and have been found wanting. Upharsin – Your kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and Persians. God took away Belshazzar’s kingdom and he lost his life that very night.  Pray or Party? Faith or Fear? True or False? Eternal or Temporary? His Will or Your Will? Life or Death? These are choices that we must make as a basis upon which we live our lives and cannot be avoided or ignored.

These choices will be constant reminders on a daily basis because we live our lives one day at a time, and every day we have to choose one or another. Today is the day of salvation, we are to take up our crosses daily as we sojourn through life working out our soul salvation with fear and trembling. Belshazzar gave a party for his nobles with his wives and concubines, eating and drinking wine with them, engaging in illicit sexual intercourse with one another, even in the days of Noah, they were eating, drinking, marrying and giving in marriage until Noah entered the ark. Are we more concerned with being invited to events just to make a name for ourselves, to be accepted, are we in a drunken stupor with our possessions, our status, our intelligence, our self-importance, self-esteem, self-righteousness, self-reliance, more concerned about what others think of us instead of what God think of us, lifting ourselves up against the Lord, instead of lifting Him up for others to see Him in our lives, unless we repent, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin. Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall - Proverbs 16:18.

Our days are numbered, life is but a vapor – life is short. Every day we spend apart from Christ we are not able to reclaim. God will write mene on our wall, and our time will be up, no more second chances, for it is appointed unto man once to die, then the judgment - Hebrews 9:27. Mene for the young, mene for the mid-aged, mene for the old-aged, mene is the finality of this life. Moses the writer of Psalm 90 exhorts us to number our days so we may gain a heart of wisdom. When mene was written on our wall, Jesus died for us so that we would live eternally with Him.  God’s scales of perfection cannot be balanced by anything we do or don’t do. Only God knows how much we weigh according to His weighting criteria. We try and weigh ourselves according to what we think is right or what we have done, but on God’s scale of righteousness, our own righteousness means nothing and tekel, we will be weighed and found wanting on God’s scales of perfection. Jesus Christ paid the price for our life and balanced the scales through His sinless life, He never violated the perfect law of God, He was found not wanting for anything. Tekel to our educational degrees, tekel to our own righteousness, tekel to our own understanding, tekel to our bank accounts, 401K’s, cafeteria plans, IRA accounts, stocks & bonds, tekel to our Mercedes Benz, Lexis, BMW, Jaguar, Cadillac Escalades, Denalis, Yukons, Range Rovers, etc., tekel to our houses and land, tekel to our clothes, shoes and jewelry. Tekel is written on our walls and we are weighed and found wanting. Tekel to our ulterior motives, tekel to our hardened hearts, tekel to our unforgiveness, tekel for being wise in our own eyes, etc. God is saying tekel and we are weighed and found wanting. Matthew 16:26 - What profit a man to gain the world and lose his soul and what would a man give in exchange for his soul. Matthew 4:4 – Man shall not live by bread alone but by every Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Are you using what talent(s) God gave you to bring Him glory? Did you bury your talent(s), upharsin, God will take what he’s given you and give to someone else. Are you lukewarm in your walk with Christ, upharsin, God will spue you out of His mouth. Are you ungrateful and unthankful with what you have by living in covetousness, upharsin, God will take away what you have and give it to others. The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away - Job 1:21

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death – Proverbs 14:12 and Proverbs 16:25. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap – Galatians 6:7.

Do we have any Daniels among us, who had uncompromising faith in God. Do we have any Belshazzars among us, who lived in blasphemy and direct defiance against God.  Please don’t wait until it’s too late to completely surrender your life to Jesus. God’s graffiti, His writing on the wall is Mene, Tekel, Upharsin. Bless those who are continuing to abide in Christ!
