Persistent Faith

A woman came to Jesus with a prayer request. She was interceding on behalf of her daughter who was possessed by a demon. She believed and knew that Jesus could heal her daughter, so her belief caused her to persist in her petition to the Lord. Jesus was on his way to Jarius' house to heal his daughter when this woman came to him with her request. She was a gentile woman and the ministry of Jesus Christ was not yet revealed to the Gentiles, but his ministry was first to the lost sheep of Israel.

This gentile woman was aware of the contempt the Jewish nation had against gentiles, however, she did not let that stop her from seeking and petitioning Jesus to heal her daughter. Her persistence, patience, passion and humility towards Christ were real and heart felt and Jesus did NOT turn her away. He did not tell her that if you sow a seed in my ministry for $50.00, God will heal your daughter. Although, Jesus initially ignored her request, it was for a good reason, not out of cruelty and unconcern, but to draw more faith out of this woman, who already had strong faith, but when Jesus got finished with her, she had a new level of faith in Christ.

Jesus traveled outside the Galilean area into pagan (unclean) territory into the districts of Tyre and Sidon to get away from the Pharisees who Jesus knew would not follow him there. Jesus told this woman she was not part of the Jewish family and ignored her first appeal and rejected her later petitions. This woman had everything working against her, and desperation filled her heart and she would not let Jesus go until he delivered her daughter. That's how we need to be, when it seems like our prayers are not being answered, we need to continue in prayer with persistence until God answers. Persistent prayer grows our faith in God.

Jesus finally honored the woman's request and healed her daughter from a distance. The power of God is so great, that Jesus was not physically in the room, but spoke the Word and her daughter was delivered from demon possession. God is omnipresent, he is everywhere at the same time, he is a strong tower and a mighty deliverer!
